SAFELiMOVE project brings together key European players in the battery sector, ranging from industrial materials producers to R&D institutes and the automotive industry, to cover the whole knowledge and value chain. Currently, European vehicle makers import more than 90% of batteries from Asia.
SAFELiMOVE aims to facilitate a market-driven disruptive technology transition toward high energy density batteries (up to 450 Wh/kg or 1200 Wh/L) while also enhancing safety in a cost-effective manner.
The project is bringing breakthroughs in five technological areas:
1) Cathode materials: Nickel-rich layered oxide
2) Anode materials: High specific capacity, lithium metal
3) Electrolyte: Advanced hybrid ceramic-polymer electrolyte with improved ion conductivity at room temperature;
4) Surface coatings: Interface adoption for effective Li transport by surface modification and/or over-coatings;
5) Solid State batteries: Knowhow creation for the development of scale up production of all-solid-state batteries.
